Opening a bank account as a foreigner in Thailand is not governed by one clear national rule. It is governed by what the branch in front of you is willing to do that day. Two branches of the same bank, on the same road, will give you different answers.

Plan it before your visa, not after
If you intend to apply for a retirement or marriage extension, the account has to exist and the money has to sit in it for a set period before you apply. An account opened the month before your appointment is an account that cannot support your application.

It is harder, and it depends on the branch and the day. It is significantly easier with a Non-Immigrant entry or with a residence certificate in hand, both of which we can arrange.
